High Blood Pressure in Dialysis Patients

First of all, the patient’s dry weight should be determined. This is best done by your dialysis physician who follows you. After determining your dry weight, your dialysis physicians will reduce the excess fluid in your body according to certain rules.
Dialysis physicians will make sure that you;
1- They try to lower your dry weight in a controlled way. For this purpose, you may sometimes need more frequent or longer dialysis.
2- By reducing salt and water intake, they try to reduce the weight gain between two dialysis between 1.5-2 kg.
3- If you are passing urine, they will try to increase the amount of urine by giving you diuretics.
4- By regulating your sodium settings during dialysis, they ensure that you drink less water after dialysis.
5- They know that some of the blood pressure medications you take will be excreted by dialysis. They adjust their doses accordingly.
6- If your blood pressure is still high despite all these practices, they will start you on medication.
So what patients need to do!
1- Take their medications regularly, completely and on time.
2- To understand the prolongation of dialysis time or increase in the number of dialysis sessions in which dry weight is tried to be lowered.
3- Not to disrupt dialysis sessions.
4- Not requesting to leave dialysis before completing the dialysis period.
5- Weighing regularly every day.
6- Keeping the weight between two dialysis sessions between 1.5-2 kg by complying with salt and water restriction.
7- Regular blood pressure measurement at home.
